My Hometown
Tuskegee, Alabama
I'm in Tuskegee, Alabama, the home of Tuskegee University, located 40 miles east of Montgomery. Tuskegee's population, according to the 2000 census, is 11,846, including approximately 3,600 students at Tuskegee University. It is the largest community and one of four incorporated towns in a predominately rural area. Elevation of the city is 475' MSL and the mean annual temperature is 65 degrees. The average rainfall is 52 inches and the length of the growing season is 240 days. Tuskegee has a strong mayor-council form of government and operates its own light, water, and waste utilities. Tuskegee is "The Cradle of Black Aviation" in America and home of the famous 99th Pursuit Squadron. Visitors will find Tuskegee a beautiful city with a topography of rolling hills, spruce pines, lakes, streams and meadows. We welcome all visitors to Tuskegee, "Thou Pride of the Swift Growing South."
